Why Become a Society Member for the Gibsons Community Building Society?

Gibsons Community Building Society (GCBS) is a not-for-profit organization that welcomes a diverse membership that aligns with our values and helps us advance our mission and achieve
our vision of a “vibrant hub of Coastal life”.
Our mission is to build a healthy, caring and thriving community.

We welcome new members to join in our collective efforts to fulfill our mission of building a healthy, caring and thriving community. Society members help elect our board of directors at our Annual General Meeting thereby ensuring that the Board is providing effective governance over our Society and fulfilling our mission. Being a society member doesn’t take a lot of time and membership performs an important role in our Society’s well-being.

Voting members are individuals who wish to participate in and be informed about the direction of GCBS.

Please Note: A Gibsons Community Building Society Membership is separate and distinct from a non-voting Gibsons Public Market membership. If you wish to also become a GPM Member, click here for more information.

Application Process and Annual fee

To become a society member, please complete the online application form or print the application form and drop it off at Gibsons Public Market. The GCBS Annual Voting Membership fee of $10 (ten dollars) per person may be paid online here as part of the application process. If you are paying for more than one member, please indicate the number of memberships you are purchasing and add each name and contact information in the notes section. You may also pay in person at the Gibsons Public Market.

Note for New Society Members: If you want to vote in this years AGM on May 26, 2026 you must purchase your membership by March 27, 2026. While you can purchase a Society Membership after this date, you will not be able to vote in the upcoming AGM.

Voting Membership benefits

As a voting member you are entitled to voting privileges at our Annual General Meeting if you have been a voting member of GCBS for 60 (sixty) days prior to the date of the AGM and your annual membership fee is in good standing. You will also receive our annual Report to Community and GCBS e-newsletters.

We welcome the support of our Society’s voting members in many ways:
  • As a volunteer.
  • As an advocate in support of our community events and programs, TidePools Aquarium, the Judi ‘Bubs’ Libin Park and Play Centre, our Merchants, Saturday Live Music, Art at the Market, and our Chef Demo and Dine events.
  • As a participant in our community events such as Summer Night Markets, Neighbourhood Nights, Beer Fest, Wellness Fest, Winter Market and Shoreline Clean Ups.
  • By donating to help us raise the funds needed to provide indoor and outdoor public gathering spaces, events, and programming for our community.

Voting membership subscription – New!

Our first contact with the Market was a tour offered by Georgy Good when the Market was nearing completion. We were impressed by the vision of the market as a community hub and a gathering place which could host a variety of activities.

We were lucky enough to have our wedding reception at the Gibsons Public Market. The space is absolutely stunning with vaulted ceilings, big windows, and a large glowing fish tank. Our photos are exceptional! The staff are kind, attentive and keen to make every detail perfect for a flawless wedding. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better venue for our wedding. It truly was a perfect day and we can’t thank or recommend the Gibsons Public Market enough!
