Art at the Market – Kevin McEvoy
I came to the Sunshine Coast in 1984. It was a bicycle field trip with the school that I was teaching for at the time. I thought that this was the most beautiful place that I had ever seen with the ocean and mountains, and artists, paradise really. After the field trip I took a leave of absence, rented a waterfront home in Sechelt and now, suddenly more than thirty years have passed. I am recently retired from my teaching assignment for School District #46 where I taught art. My old U.B.C. professor, Gordon Smith, used to say that it is the rarest thing in the world to find an art teacher that works on his own work after they start to teach. I have always tried to keep busy with my own work, Even painting in the classroom to demonstrate to students that art can be a job. My work has always been sort of abstract but grounded in nature. More and more I have been using my camera and computer to alter images prior to painting them. I hope you enjoy this exhibit, my second at the Gibsons Public Market.
