About the Organization

The Gibsons Community Building Society (GCBS) is a not-for-profit organization established in 2014 with the vision of creating a vibrant community gathering place. From an initial investment in the land by GCBS and its partners – Town of Gibsons, Community Futures Sunshine Coast, and Sunshine Coast Foundation – the Board began a fundraising drive to build the physical structure. Our cornerstone donors include the Government of Canada, Island Coastal Economic Trust, Seaspan & the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation, and TELUS. More than 310 donors are recognized on our Giving Tree displayed in our entrance.

GCBS is the proud operator of Gibsons Public Market and through our charity, BlueAct Marine Society, the Nicholas Sonntag Tidepools Aquarium.

Members of our Board of Directors are voted in by our Society Members (not Market Members) each year at our annual general meeting. Our Board of Governors and the Board of Directors for the Gibsons Marine Education Centre Society are appointed by the GCBS Board of Directors.

As a not-for-profit organization, revenue generated by Gibsons Public Market and the Nicholas Sonntag Tidepools Aquarium flow to Gibsons Community Building Society for community programming and operations.

As a registered not-for-profit BC society, GCBS is required to hold an Annual General Meeting every year. The 2025 meeting was held at 3:30 on May 27th, 2025. Society Membership with GCBS is by application following the process outlined in the Society’s Bylaws. For more information, please contact info@gibsonspublicmarket.com.

Our first contact with the Market was a tour offered by Georgy Good when the Market was nearing completion. We were impressed by the vision of the market as a community hub and a gathering place which could host a variety of activities.

We were lucky enough to have our wedding reception at the Gibsons Public Market. The space is absolutely stunning with vaulted ceilings, big windows, and a large glowing fish tank. Our photos are exceptional! The staff are kind, attentive and keen to make every detail perfect for a flawless wedding. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better venue for our wedding. It truly was a perfect day and we can’t thank or recommend the Gibsons Public Market enough!
